DC Fault Study of a Point-to-Point HVDC System Integrating Offshore Wind Farm Using High-Temperature Superconductor DC Cables

This paper presents a feasibility study of an offshore wind farm (OWF) HVDC integration system using high-temperature superconductor (HTS) DC cables. A representative ±100 kV/2 GW point-to-point OWF is proposed including HTS cables and two converter stations modular multilevel converters (MMCs). To be compatible with the high current rating cables, each onshore consists three MMCs in parallel. interaction between MMCs, multiple lumped π-section model cable considering electrical thermal functionality developed. provides critical assessment HVDC-HTS system, emphasis on performance under fast fault transients. Detailed simulations presented this reveal that effective limiting against short circuit faults.
